Nicolas Joly takes the Coulée de Serrant out of Interloire

Nicolas Joly

Following a court battle over his refusal to pay his cotisation (subscription) to Interloire, Nicolas Joly (Coulée de Serrant) has decided to take the Coulée de Serrant – the seven hectare AC in the heart of Savennières – out of Interloire, the administrative and promotional organisation for many of the appellations from Muscadet to Touraine. The Joly family are the sole owners of Coulée de Serrant.

On the 3rd February 2015 Joly was ordered by the Tribunal d'instance d'Angers (the same court used for the Olivier Cousin case) to pay Interloire between 4000-5000 euros. Joly objects to paying his cotisation because he says it is used to promote industrial wines.

Three larger appellations have already left Interloire – Bourgueil, Fiefs Vendéens and Montlouis. Leaving Interloire will mean that the Interprofession will no longer promote the Coulée de Serrant. As Nicolas Joly already has a strong media presence, this is unlikely to be any hardship.  This is clearly demonstrated by the coverage of this story in Le Parisien and Le Figaro.

The AC may even disappear from Interloire's map of the area.

From Le Figaro (10.2.2015):
